Third single from Manuel Valera New Cuban Express Big Band available now

Today we’re releasing, “Odio La Mascara Y El Vicio,” the third single from José Martí en Nueva York, the upcoming album by pianist Manuel Valera and his New Cuban Express Big Band.

The track with a sombre Danzón, a Cuban dance style. Valera’s pensive melody is sung by Camila Meza over a lush bed woodwinds, as she sings Martí‘s words that reflect on the longing that immigrants feel for their homeland. The piece develops into a more modern uptempo Latin jazz feel, with Meza returning in a more optimistic mood, before solos by saxophonist Roman Filiu and trombonist Andy Clausen.
