Listen to Julieta Eugenio’s first single, “Efes”

We’ve released the first single from saxophonist Julieta Eugenio! Check out the video below for “Efes.”

The title is the plural of the letter “f”, and it’s Julieta’s original composition reflecting on all the firsts she encountered upon moving to NYC in 2013. After a slower introduction, the jagged repeated bass line and fast tempo represent consistently dealing with constant challenges, while the peaceful waltz of the middle melody mirrors the peaceful tranquility of the joy of a job well done. The trio weaves together a searching dialogue, with Julieta’s strong tenor solo exploring the songs every corner, while Matthew Dwonszyk’s brisk solo explores the upper regions of the bass range. The relaxing waltz returns before a recap of the main melody. The group’s cohesive sound meets the challenge of chordless trio playing with both grit and grace.
