Second single from Dave Douglas ‘Secular Psalms’ out now

We’re releasing the second single from the new Dave Douglas album Secular Psalms!

The music is inspired by artwork by Jan and Hubert van Eyck and features an international ensemble that includes Berlinde Deman (serpent, tuba, voice), Marta Warelis (piano, prepared piano, pump organ), Frederik Leroux (guitars, lute, electronics), Tomeka Reid (cello), and Lander Gyselinck (drums, electronics).

“We Believe” is Douglas’ first effort setting Latin text, sung beautifully by Deman, this is a sort of universal statement of principals. Part of the project which Douglas has described as “songs of praise for all of us.” Organ carries the rich harmonies along, while the lute and cello provide commentary and counterpoint. A gorgeous trumpet and cello duo caps off the improvisation in this piece.
