New Sanctuary | Novembre
A note form Dave on this month’s track:
Susie Ibarra has been playing the traditionally Philippine, microtonally pitched, Kulintang gongs for many years. I wrote for them in the orchestral suite Blue Latitudes, and I knew I would want to include them in our improvisations here. Novembre is a meditative piece in the suite that draws Marc Ribot into the fertile harmonics of those gongs. I also feel like Tyler McDiarmid deserves a special shout out here. His engineering draws out the subtle colors and combinations of the gongs with the airy open trumpet and the electric guitar.
