Michael Sarian Unveils Debut Single: Glory Box
Sarian’s debut album for the label is titled Esquina, and today, the first single, “Glory Box“, is officially out! It is a cover of Portishead’s iconic song “Glory Box”. The original version itself incorporates the music of a totally different song, “Ike’s Rap II” by Isaac Hayes.
“Growing up, Portishead’s Glory Box was more than just a track—it was an unforgettable moment in pop culture that transcended generations. Its fusion of soulful vocals and trip-hop beats left an indelible mark on me. This reimagining felt like the perfect way to honor its legacy while exploring a fresh, new direction.” — Michael Sarian
The album Esquina is a sharp turn into expansive pulsating jazz fusion, marked by wild, Jon Hassell-esque processed trumpet, synthesizers and electric organs and pianos, and galloping rhythms that would not be out of place on Miles Davis’ Agharta or On the Corner albums.
The single “Glory Box” is now streaming everywhere. Pre-order Esquina on digital and CD here!
