Dave Douglas to present masterclasses July 22-23 in London, England

Following the ENGAGE Tour in Europe July 14-21, Dave Douglas will present for two days of enlightening and enlivening interactions in London, England. The workshops will take place at the Vortex Jazz Club as follows:

Monday, July 22 – Trumpet Masterclass
Dave will talk about performance, specific to brass, but also encompassing work on other instruments. Topics like time, tone, practice, air flow, flexibility, articulation, and phrasing as they all interact with improvisation will be discussed. Bring your axe! Tickets here.

Tuesday, July 23 – Composition Masterclass
Dave Douglas will talk about composition, including his own works and those of his colleagues. Dave will also give some hands-on direction for composers: suggestions, exercises, and ways of looking at the topic which aim to open every mind and every ear. Dave’s approach is to work with each musician holistically, working with the person as they come. This is a great opportunity for anyone just beginning to write, or for long time practitioners. Known for his work as an educator at the institutions such as the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada and Juilliard and Mannes School of Music in New York City, as well as many workshops and residencies around the world, Dave’s insights on practicing and writing music are sure to inspire.
