We're happy to announce the preorder of Linda Oh's "Sun Pictures"—her 3rd album as a leader, and her 2nd for our label. This is a dynamite band featuring Greenleaf alum Ben Wendel of Kneebody, Aussie guitarist James Muller, and drummer Ted Poor. And Linda's writing for this crew is stronger than ever. The title of the album comes from the world's oldest operating outdoor cinema located in Broome, Australia where Linda's sister lives. That imagery and concept are central to the feel of these tunes—Linda describes each piece as a "snapshot from recent travels and experiences playing music." And busy she's been, playing with Dave Douglas' Quintet, Sound Prints Quintet with Dave and Joe Lovano, and countless other projects the helped shape these tunes.

We're excited to announce and share with you new Linda Oh music. "Sun Pictures" is her second for Greenleaf after last year's "Initial Here." Linda has been busy since that release playing in Dave's Quintet, the Sound Prints Quintet with Dave and Joe Lovano, and a boatload of other projects. And it's from those travels and experiences that "Sun Pictures" came into focus — Linda calls the album "a set of musical postcards."

Grammy-winning saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano and two-time Grammy nominated trumpeter Dave Douglas are current masters on their respective instruments within the pantheon of modern jazz. From their collaborations on acclaimed recordings such as Trio Fascination: Edition Two and more recently John Zorn’s Stolas, Lovano and Douglas have shown that their distinct and robust voices can lead, blend and push the idiom forward both in composition and improvisation, while embracing the front-line masters of previous generations. In 2008, when Lovano and Douglas were co-leaders of the renowned SFJAZZ Collective, the group paid tribute to living icon Wayne Shorter showcasing arrangements of Shorter originals alongside newly composed pieces influenced by Shorter’s compositional voice. The experience was a catalyst that lead the two instrumentalists to conceive the Joe Lovano & Dave Douglas Quintet, Sound Prints; an all-star ensemble including up and coming pianist Lawrence Fields, bassist Linda Oh, and drummer Joey Baron. Performing new repertoire as well as brand new Shorter compositions in direct collaboration with Shorter, the quintet is less an homage to Wayne Shorter and more of a unique convergence of three unparalleled trajectories.
