REVIEW: Overcome in Paste Magazine

Nice to see some ink on the new Dave Douglas LP Overcome in Paste Magazine!

In his piece on New & Notable Vinyl Releases, Robert Ham says of the album:

Inspired by these new civil rights movements, [Douglas] has gathered together a core group of collaborators — among them, trombonist Ryan Keberle, drummer Rudy Royston and vocalists Camila Meza and Fay Victor — to musically meet the moment with a set of modern jazz songs speaking to the heart of the new social activism through unbound tunes like the scrabbling “Perspective” and a powerful take on the anthem “We Shall Overcome.” The whole album is beautifully shattering as it calls up the spirits of forebears like Langston Hughes and John Lewis and uses their words and history, along with the rolling momentum of the music, to push listeners forward to action.
