Listen to “Peering” by Ryan Keberle & Catharsis Trio

Check out the third single from the upcoming Ryan Keberle & Catharsis album The Hope I Hold.

“Peering” highlights the Catharsis Trio portion of the record, a kind of album-within-the-album that fits in seamlessly. Written by bassist, Jorge Roeder, it constitutes the first of the bassist’s original compositions to appear on a Catharsis recording. The track features Keberle’s burnished trombone melody before underscoring Camila Meza’s guitar/voice wizardry in an arrangement that deftly builds toward an emotional climax that highlights the masterful interplay between guitar, vocals, bass and trombone.

The track points up what is perhaps the defining characteristic of the Catharsis Trio—the fact that everyone composes. “The repertoire has really taken on a life of its own,” Keberle says. “From a compositional standpoint, this really has become a collective project. And for someone who’s been leading bands for a long time now, that’s a really fun thing to be a part of.”
