Dave Douglas Releases 3rd Alloy Single: ‘Friendly Gargoyle’

“Friendly Gargoyle” walks in with a lilting tune, only revealing its truly menacing qualities as the piece goes along. The three trumpets improvise together, building the tension through call and response, percussive provocation, and harmonic subversion. All of which leads to an open feature for Patricia Brennan, Kate Pass and Rudy Royston. The band comes together for the final chirping theme, restating the inscrutable stone face of the protagonist.
