Dave Douglas heads to Malmö
This weekend, Dave Douglas heads to Malmö for two special concerts.
The first is on Friday: a rare performance of Eight Elements of Change, Dave Douglas’ 2011 piece for eight improvising ensembles. Performed in the round, with written tuttis and improvised openings for each of the ensembles, the work takes inspiration from Terry Riley’s “In C,” events proceed with freedom and change, flowing and morphing along as players listen and respond. Approximately one hour in length, this new performance of Eight Elements will be prepared and delivered by the talented students and faculty of the Malmö Academy of Music, where Dave has been helping develop a new Masters program for composer performers.

The second is on Saturday: Dave Douglas joins faculty and students from the Malmö Academy of Music in a special, one-time-only concert. The program moves between jazz, folk, singer-songwriter, and experimental soundscapes, featuring both Dave Douglas’ own works and new compositions developed in collaborative workshops during Dave’s ongoing visit as Artist in Residence at the Malmö Academy of Music.
Join us for two joyous and thoughtful evenings of music curated especially for the event by Dave Douglas and the talented artists from the Academy.
