Beck’s Latest

Beck has been doing a lot lately. Mostly with his website actually. If you haven’t seen any of his new features, you should check it out.

There’s the Record Club feature that has been updated consistently. The idea is that Beck invited some friends over to record a whole album by an artist. The first album they chose was Velvet Underground and Nico. Phenomenal choice. So far, 5 videos have been posted. You can check them out here. It will be interesting to see what he (they) pick next.

Separate from the Record Club, he also launched a section called Irrelevant Topics which will feature “conversations between musicians, artists, writers, etc. on various subjects, without promotional pretext or editorial direction.” The first two posts are of a conversation between Beck and Tom Waits.

He’s also offering up DJ sets in a section called Planned Obsolescence. The set up now has tracks ranging from Herbie Hancock to Silver Jews, and Soft Machine to Timbaland. And it works well.

If nothing else, the man has great taste in the subject matters he chooses. Looking forward to more.
