What We Are Doing

Many thanks to those of you who have purchased my new quintet recording, Meaning and Mystery. As we get ready to hit the road we look forward to seeing many of you in LA, Chicago, the Bay Area, Minneapolis, Cambridge and New York. Please help us spread the word.

The most common question I get when I tell people we’re doing an internet-based recording outlet is: “So you’re doing downloads only? But I like to have the CD.”

We’re still making CDs. You can get them right here. Downloads are also available. But please consider ordering the CDs as they contain full liner notes, Steve Byram artwork and a beautiful Todd Weinstein photograph. (And an O-card. That’s the cool cardboard thing that wraps around the CD case…). Our secure on-line store, Musicstem.com, makes finding these recordings easier than ever. If on-line purchasing just isn’t your thing, feel free to contact us directly by email at help@musicstem.com, regular mail at PO Box 477364, Chicago, IL 60647 or via telephone at 800.457.1374.

This site is where you’ll find all my recent recordings, and within the US you get free, prompt shipping. Internationally we also ship promptly via USPS, a guaranteed 4-7 day delivery. You’ll also find Kneebody recordings, including the upcoming Live album on our Paperback Series. And at the Musicstem store you’ll find Drew Gress, Von Freeman, Michael Moore, Terry Callier, and many, many others.

In the next months we are planning a Paperback Series recording of Keystone live in Sweden. This recording from the Umea Festival in October 2005 captures us performing the live score to Fatty and Mabel Adrift, as well as performing other new pieces that are not on the studio release.

We also have tentative plans to produce a recording of Blue Latitudes with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. An hour of music for three improvisers (Susie Ibarra, Mark Dresser, and I) and an ensemble of 14 instruments. The piece premiered earlier this month and you may be able to hear a sneak preview on the BBC this coming week.

Soon we will be publishing two books of sheet music: Mountain Passages and Meaning and Mystery. With more to come. We hope that this might be especially interesting for students who receive a $1 discount on anything purchased through musicstem.com.

AND don’t forget to check out our Subscription Series, that now houses 10 unique, unheard, unreleased tracks. There’s a new addition every month. Subscribe and get access to these special tracks, as well as a discount on all our products. And help support our efforts to make more music available.

This was supposed to be a short post in response to the curious as to what we’re doing. I guess there’s a lot going on. Oh, right. And don’t miss the radio player at the top of our page… Fun.

OK. Peace and best wishes to all.
