The Music of Pythagoras

Been reading The Music of Pythagoras: How an Ancient Brotherhood Cracked the Code of the Universe and Lit the Path from Antiquity to Outer Space, by Kitty Ferguson. OK, maybe the subtitle is a little hyperbolic.

I feel like I just swallowed up 3000 years of history over a couple weeks. Amazing. And brings it together the way discoveries in music, science and human existence were all moving along similar trajectories. How this one man, Pythagorus, is our earliest direct, uninterrupted link to the ancient learnings of early antiquity. And even before that, apparently.

A real mind blower if you’re into that kind of thing.

ps. See you at the Vanguard for further explorations with my friend Joe Lovano this week.
