New Quintet Recording Coming Soon

The recent European tour gave the quintet some performance opportunities that are fairly unique. We’re playing music from the whole book–tunes from The Infinite, from Strange Liberation, from Meaning and Mystery, as well as a passel of new pieces. In all, it’s 40 or 50 tunes.

We’re going to record all of them, live at the Jazz Standard from December 5–10, 2006. The Standard offers an opportunity to document the gig in high audio quality, and the entire six night run will be recorded and uploaded for release the following day.

This is a new experience for me and for the band–a special kind of challenge to make this gig available to listeners all around the world, almost instantly. Also it’ll be a summing up of all the playing we’ve done together, including rearrangements of music by Beck, Bjork, Blige and Wainwright. This will also be my recording debut on the cornet–I know many have written asking about that, and I’ll post about that switch soon.

Continue reading to see the list of tunes we’ll be playing. And come join us if you can.
