Listen to “The Ness” from Trish Clowes
We’re releasing the second single from A View with a Room, the new album from saxophonist Trish Clowes!
“The Ness” is inspired by footage of a Scottish coastline by UK filmmaker (and frequent collaborator) Rose Hendry. The quartet explores some broad sonic territory using saxophones, guitar, piano and drums to create a range of sounds and textures. Beginning with alternating between a funky band vibe and lonely solo tenor sax, the ensemble reaches an exalted summit of sounds, before returning to the funky feel for a saxophone exploration. Drums and guitar center the ensemble groove. Piano sneaks in for a spell before sax returns for duet of exploration. The band hits the summit once again before the bottom drops out to reveal a new world of soft sound; spacey guitar, rolling piano and atmospheric soprano sax flutters fade into an atmospheric mist.
