ANFTD #88: Manuel Valera

Dave sits down with brilliant pianist and composer Manuel Valera to talk both about the music on his latest album, José Martí En Nueva York, and about his relationship to the music of his country of origin, Cuba. Manuel shares a lot of thoughts about the development of music there, as well as how it has continued developing into our times. They also talk about the two vocalists on the recording, Camila Meza and Sofia Rei. On the Extra, they talk about Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, the arrangements as well as the section playing. Enjoy.
