Archive for the ‘Indigo Trio (Updates)’ Category

Happy friday, everyone. If you read our site regularly, you probably received an email blast this morning. If not, we announced our Holiday Bundles earlier today. There are some pretty sweet deals on every album in our catalog over at the store. Also, a pretty killer Subscriber package for new people wanting to overload their hard drive with tunage and support what we do.

More specials coming next week. Happy post-Turkey day.

Indigo Trio Tour

This just in, and on newstands everywhere:

That’s 10 years in a row for DD, so doesn’t that make him the Trumpeter of the Decade? Kidding. Glad for the continued recognition. Also, it’s 2 years in a row for Donny in the Rising Star category, and 3 years in a row for Nicole — we hope they both keep rising.

Congrats to all the winners and honorably mentioned.

Indigo Trio

Tomorrow night, the 11th of March, Greenleaf artist the Indigo Trio (Nicole Mitchell, Harrison Bankhead, & Hamid Drake) kicks off a short tour of Europe in Katowice, Poland. This is the same band that played for the Live in Montreal show recorded for Greenleaf’s Paperback Series (Volume 3).

Each of the three members of this group play Europe a fair amount with different bands, but as a trio, this is a rare Euro-tour so don’t miss out on seeing these incredible Chicago improvisers in the flesh.

It was a beautiful night last night here in Chicago–not only the weather, but the music coming out of Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park. For those who missed this incredible performance, I offer some pictures I snapped as well as a video. More video to come.

Great show Nicole!

Nicole Mitchell

This week’s Chicago Reader hit Thursday, and anyone who picked one up can see the Indigo Trio’s Nicole Mitchell on the front page. Peter Margasak delivers an in depth, comprehensive article on Nicole–her life, her music, her many projects. If I could quote him for a second: “…Nicole Mitchell is on her way to becoming the greatest living flutist in jazz.” Strong, but true words in our opinion. Check out Dave’s contribution to the accolades on page 16 if you have a hard-copy. If not CLICK HERE for the Reader’s website.

You can pick up Mitchell/Bankhead/Drake, Indigo Trio: Live in Montreal, the 3rd volume of our Paperback Series HERE.

It’s that time of year again when Downbeat releases its Critics Poll awards, and we here at Greenleaf relay those statistics to you. Mr. Douglas was certainly not overlooked, getting top honors for his Trumpet playing (that’s the 7th year in a row!), honorably mentioned in the Jazz Artist and Composer categories, as well as having Meaning & Mystery cited as one of the top Albums of the Year.

And while we are on the subject, he also received trumpet player of the year by the Jazz Journalists Association last week. While we celebrate here, Dave continues his tour with the SF Jazz Collective.

Lastly, who is more deserving of the Rising Star Flutist award then our own Nicole Mitchell? Our hats are off to her as well!
