Spirit Moves has been a pleasure to release and work on. Kudos to all who helped and are continuing to help spread the word. And with the preorder long since past, the orders shipped out (more coming in daily, thank you!), we thought to gather some of our promotional material and news together in one post. And here it is.
Brass Ecstasy: On Stage
First, most recently, we’ve released two sets from Brass Ecstasy’s record release shows in NY. Each contain new tunes not found on SM or via our Subscription series. Both are available as MP3s or FLACs. If you preordered SM, you received an email from me this morning with a link to the 9:30 show on June 19th. We’re happy to have been able to get you this music and hope you enjoy it. Check the Brass Ecstasy tour page for their upcoming European tour dates.
Both sets available here. Also included is a bundle with both sets and a Deluxe Spirit Moves that saves you some money.
Sheet Music
These charts are some of my favorites. Here is a sample of the score format. Included with the full scores are charts of all the individual parts for each tune. We’ll most likely have an update for you soon.
Video
We’ve heard from so many of you regarding how much you like the DVD from the Spirit Moves Deluxe edition. We have to give props to Jem Cohen and Christoph Green for making this happen. Here are all 4 videos we’ve released on the web. More available on the aforementioned DVD.
We are getting some great feedback on Dave’s new album. We thank everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words. But as much as we love hearing how much everyone is loving the record, be sure we’d love it more if you told someone you know who hasn’t heard the record yet. Post on your blog, post our links on your Facebook page, Myspace… anywhere really. Spread the word so that everyone has the chance to hear the record. Remember, it’s all streaming at the store page.
But moving on…
Dave is teaching up in Banff if you didn’t already know. He is sending on updates as the program continues. Today, being the first day, brought out the first post. We’ll keep you updated here, but also check it out live at the link below.
…and we’re up!
Click over to the Spirit Moves page at our webstore to see the packages we’ve put out there for you. The album is streaming in it’s entirety at that page as well. Plus there’s a new video from the DVD that is included in the Deluxe packaging. And there is sheet music, too. And… and… and… plenty more over there.
Subscriber update:
There are two bonus tracks available at the subscriber section – Hope, and Prayer for Baghdad. Both are from the same Brass Ecstasy session that brought Spirit Moves to fruition. Both are available as MP3s or FLACs.
Those who want to get in on the action over at the subscriber section (we’re over 2GB of unreleased material!), we have an offer for you involving Dave’s new record. Click here for more info.
To all who helped out: thank you, thank you.
And to our illustrious label head and artist-in-awesome: thanks for the new record, DD. Have a good time at Banff.
Working around the clock over here to get Dave’s new record Spirit Moves happening. Updates to follow later this afternoon.
While we work, wet your whistle on a new track streaming on our sidebar player. “Great Awakening” is the penultimate track on the record and one of our favorites.
But Jim, why can’t we stream the whole thing right now?!? Patience.
Jazz on 3 will be broadcasting the DDQ performance from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival on May 25th. This is a show that received a lot of glowing reviews. The BBC posted a sneak peak of this performance recently. A new tune, too — “Handwritten Letter.” Killer.
Hear the rest of the Dave Douglas Quintet set at Cheltenham Jazz Festival on Jazz on 3 on May 25, 2009.

Live In New York (GRE-P-04)
“The initial snap of the snare on the opening “Bloodletting,” bolstered by the low resonance of the bass, is immediately engaging. Nachoff’s searing buzz that follows quickly transforms into tight melody with a definite resolution. This introduction establishes the aesthetic for the rest of the album: strong writing with particular emphasis on harmonic unisons between the frontline instruments.”

And on our sidebar music player, check our “Lucifer,” the bonus studio track included with this live set. Of course, you can stream every tune at our store, too.
I’ve gotta say, Dave’s acoustic piano announcement today threw me for a loop. As I’m usually pretty up-to-date with the DD news, reading it on the blog before I knew anything about it has me even more excited than usual. Very much looking forward to that.
Looking back… err, forward — we just posted a new title at our store. Bow River Falls was Dave’s first post-RCA release. Released by our buddy Mike at Premonition Records in 2004, this record finds Dave working with Louis Sclavis, Peggy Lee, and Dylan van der Schyff. The music was recorded at Banff in a single afternoon during the International Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music. This was a group effort all the way with each member bringing in compositions and arrangements (Blinks by Steve Lacy opens the record — listen on our sidebar player).
All the audio is streamable at the album page at our store. Have a listen. Stellar record. Glad to have it in stock.
Dave Douglas & hr Bigband
Looking past the Spirit Moves release this summer, we’ll be releasing Dave’s first collection of big band pieces later this year. The to-be-titled work features a collection of Douglas originals, arranged for by Jim McNeely for hr Bigband with Dave as guest trumpeter.
A sneak peak of this recording will be heard on hr2 on May 3, 7.05p local time (that’s 1.05p NYC). People around the world can stream at http://www.hr-online.de/.
More info on the Fall release coming soon.
Full-Album Streaming
We also started full-album streaming our frontline catalog at our store recently. And for those who like listening while reading this here blog of ours, we have a new player on the sidebar. The tracks will change weekly — mostly album cuts, but sometimes tracks that will be exclusive to that player. Click over to the store, click over on the sidebar, pretty much anywhere you click we’re making it as easy as we can for you to hear our artists fine work. We hope you dig.
As Dave alluded to, we posted a preview of the upcoming Spirit Moves record for our subscribers. The track, “View From Blue Mountain,” is up for download at the subscriber section along with a behind-the-scenes video from the recording session for that tune. It was shot by Christoph Green and Jem Cohen. More vids coming soon.
If you’re not a subscriber, click here to become one. Subscribers get the first taste of all our releases plus access to our ever-growing stockpile of unreleased material–MP3, FLAC, Sheet Music, Ringtones, and much more.
Wondering where we went? Well, we have been working on rebuilding the blog to make it better and easier for you to read and interact with. We should have it all done this week.
