Nels Cline + Norton Wisdom

I also came across a clip of another live performance from this duo the other day…

Awesome.

Guitarist Nels Cline and ar Norton Wisdom, both masters of their medium, joined together last year for an afternoon of sonic and visual improvisation caught on film by Aeght Nign. Armed with his guitar and effects, Cline constructs lush soundscapes brought about by Wisdom’s brush-stroke spontaneity. Wisdom in turn follows Cline’s auditory twists creating and recreating the same canvas.

Two mesmerizing performances are included on the DVD along with special features like the Norton Headcam, and a behind-the-scenes look into the sessions.

Preorder the DVD at our store.

Dave Douglas - Bimhuis Cover

Live at the Bimhuis was one of the very first releases on Greenleaf Music, and the first in Dave’s Paperback Series. It predates my time here, actually, but not by much.

An order came in this morning for the final physical copy on hand. So, as of today, the CD format for this title is Out-Of-Print. Digital formats are of course still available here.

Thanks to all who have ordered it in the past and for making it one of the most successful releases in our catalog.

Record Of The Day

Most of you probably saw the email blast we just sent out. For those who didn’t, one of the things we mentioned was the Record of the Day special offer we’re doing at the store.

Each day for the next few weeks we’ll put up a different deeply-discounted album. $7 for the CD, $6 for the FLACs, and $5 for the MP3s.

That means that you can buy a CD for less than you can buy the MP3s at other retailers. Plus you get sweet artwork and packaging — remember that stuff? Or choose the FLAC/MP3s that are sampled higher than most places on the web (320kbps MP3s).

The first Record of the Day is up now, Moonshine by Keystone.

Indigo Trio Tour

We just posted two tracks from Dave’s newest album at the Subscriber Blog. The Presidents (track 1) composed and arranged by Dave Douglas, and A Single Sky (track 3) composed by Dave Douglas and arranged by Jim McNeely are up for download.

Subscriber login here.

More info on the A Single Sky preorder coming VERY soon.

The Brass Ecstasy Tiny Desk Concert made it to the front page on YouTube with now over 85,000 views. With 187 comments posted so far you get a wide variety of opinions on the short set.

Here’s just a few…

“Being a typical modern teenager, I never knew a brass ensemble would ever sound this pleasant to listen to until now. Thanks NPR for posting this :)

“you guys are awesome if you really work on that you be playing pro.”

“Best 17 min and 53 secs i spent ever”

“the trumpet players’ ray bans are sick.”

“man i love that trombone player”

“where is the vocals?”

“Thanks for the political jab at Bush, Douglas. Couldn’t help yourself, right? Twilight of the Dogs. What a clever, dyslexic title. 1-20-09 was such an inspirational day for you. Transfer of power, and all that. Here it is roughly seven months later. R U proud of the job your messiah is doing? So vastly superior to Bush, right? Uh huh. obama and his administration remind me a lot of your music. Cataphonic. Ever hear of separation of music and politics? Try it sometime. It’s nice.”

“they should play ska music, cause we all know the best music involving horns is ska, true story.”

“i agree with chewbacca”

Spirit Moves has been a pleasure to release and work on. Kudos to all who helped and are continuing to help spread the word. And with the preorder long since past, the orders shipped out (more coming in daily, thank you!), we thought to gather some of our promotional material and news together in one post. And here it is.

Brass Ecstasy: On Stage

First, most recently, we’ve released two sets from Brass Ecstasy’s record release shows in NY. Each contain new tunes not found on SM or via our Subscription series. Both are available as MP3s or FLACs. If you preordered SM, you received an email from me this morning with a link to the 9:30 show on June 19th. We’re happy to have been able to get you this music and hope you enjoy it. Check the Brass Ecstasy tour page for their upcoming European tour dates.

Both sets available here. Also included is a bundle with both sets and a Deluxe Spirit Moves that saves you some money.

Sheet Music

These charts are some of my favorites. Here is a sample of the score format. Included with the full scores are charts of all the individual parts for each tune. We’ll most likely have an update for you soon.

Video

We’ve heard from so many of you regarding how much you like the DVD from the Spirit Moves Deluxe edition. We have to give props to Jem Cohen and Christoph Green for making this happen. Here are all 4 videos we’ve released on the web. More available on the aforementioned DVD.

We are getting some great feedback on Dave’s new album.  We thank everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words.  But as much as we love hearing how much everyone is loving the record, be sure we’d love it more if you told someone you know who hasn’t heard the record yet.  Post on your blog, post our links on your Facebook page, Myspace… anywhere really.  Spread the word so that everyone has the chance to hear the record.  Remember, it’s all streaming at the store page.

But moving on…

Dave is teaching up in Banff if you didn’t already know.  He is sending on updates as the program continues.  Today, being the first day, brought out the first post.  We’ll keep you updated here, but also check it out live at the link below.
